Why did we not get a toy?

These were the words my three year old spoke while getting back into the car after voting on Friday. "Mommy, why did we not get a toy in there?"

I found myself wanting to say, "because you don't always get rewarded for doing what you are supposed to do." Because voting is what you are supposed to do. Voting is your right as an American. Voting is something people fought so hard for all those years ago. For a voice...to be heard. (Trying to explain that to The Monster probably would have gone over as well as explaining taxes to Sleeping Beauty went lat week.)

But, no matter who you choose. No matter who you don't. Just go vote. (Dang, I should write for a campaign!)

Make your voice heard; even if it is just you hearing that voice as you bubble in next to your voice. Stand tall and be proud. Today let's all be proud to live in America. Today let's all be united as one...united in our believe that everyone should at least have the opportunity to be heard.

Because if you think about it, that really is our prize. We GET to have a voice when so many others aren't so lucky.

Blood Orange Martinis, Babies, and Politics

What do all of these have in common? Girls' Weekend, duh! I figured I needed to pick things back up over here at Unmadebeds since my BFF Beth over at Clothes and Cocktails has mentioned it a couple times. Nothing more annoying than checking out a blog that isn't updated...more on why later.

For now I'll leave you with some highlights from a baby shower weekend with the best girls I know. (Don't be disillusioned...I normally am not this cool...I have three kids...I'm lucky to shower every other day...don't judge...seriously, stop judging...I used to be smokin' back in the day.)

We started off at my house...which we quickly ran from...possibly screaming...more than likely with our ears plugged and singing songs from PBS kids. Next stop a hotel with a Starbucks, then pedicures, dinner out, and lots of laughing along the way.

We woke up in the morning to texts from Kandi, from Woven Home, telling us she was on her way. Only it was phrased different, and I'm really immature and couldn't help but reply to like I was an adolescent boy. Then headed to breakfast...at 11, massages shopping, and dinner out later.

The evening ended with blood orange Martinis, a bag of Cheetos, old school rap music, and a healthy discussion of politics.

These girls are part of my heart. They are my sisters; I only have a brother...who totally rocks in all the ways that I am a bore. These girls are my first ever sisters. The people who have seen me at my embarrassingly worst moments in life and decided to be my friend anyway. In fact, sometimes they like me better because if those stupid decisions. And, because of them I am a better woman and mother. Because of them, no matter where I am or what I have done, I know that I am loved.

I love you all dearly! Thanks for loving me back. Until next time...

The tooth fairy scramble.

Not only did she start school, but the very next morning she lost her first tooth. Not the traditional way, but it still counts. She was really brave and didn't even act scared at all! We have been talking about what this will be like for a while now; I think she was ready. Unfortunately I was not prepared.

Waiting for it to numb and watching cartoons.

Daddy got her a slushie for being so brave. She got a silly band and a treasure chest from the dentist.

Later, after everyone was in bed, I scrambled for a tooth fairy plan. Shockingly enough, Pinterest wasn't much help...I know, right? The husband was at work, so I couldn't really talk to him about it. I went down to the craft closet and grabbed a bunch of stuff. This is what I came up with.

Tooth pouch.

Note from the tooth fairy: Thank you so much for the tooth! It will go perfect with my collection. Here is some money, and a pillow for the next tooth you lose. (I hope the dentist doesn't have to pull any more.) Sorry about the fairy dust on your pillow and window, I couldn't fly in the rain. Tell Dr. %&$* "hello" for me next time you see him! Love, The Tooth Fairy

She got 4 quarters...covered in sparkle mod podge because I'm cheesy like that.

And then she wanted to write a thank you note and draw the tooth fairy a picture. She is so kind and sensitive. It amazes me every day.

Fairy dust on the window sill.

What do you do for the tooth fairy? Or do you not?
